Frequently asked questions about AI and comprehension test making for teachers

How do you test reading comprehension?

To test reading comprehension, you typically present a passage of text to the reader and then ask them a series of questions about the content of the passage, requiring them to demonstrate their understanding by answering questions based solely on the information provided in the text, including literal details, inferences, and critical analysis depending on the level of comprehension being assessed.

What are the challenges in creating reading comprehension questions?

Creating reading comprehension questions is challenging because it requires aligning questions with the text's complexity, balancing question types like literal, inferential, and evaluative, and accurately assessing comprehension skills. Teachers must also support diverse reading abilities, maintain clarity, avoid bias, and ensure relevance to learning objectives. This process can be time-consuming and mentally demanding.

How can AI tools help overcome challenges in creating reading comprehension questions?

AI tools help by quickly generating reading comprehension questions, saving time and effort for teachers. They create a balanced mix of question types—literal, inferential, and evaluative—while aligning with text complexity and learning objectives. AI tools also adjust question difficulty to support diverse reading abilities and ensure clarity and relevance, making the process more efficient and effective.

How do AI tools for reading comprehension questions work?

AI tools like Monsha use natural language processing (NLP) and advanced algorithms to generate both reading passages and comprehension questions with answers. Teachers provide inputs such as topics, grade level, or learning objectives, and the AI creates a suitable passage alongside a balanced mix of question types—literal, inferential, and evaluative. The tool ensures alignment with text complexity and learning goals, while also allowing customization to meet specific classroom needs.

What types of reading comprehension questions can AI generate for teachers?

Monsha can generate a wide range of reading comprehension questions tailored to your needs, including:

- Multiple-choice questions

You can customize questions to align with Bloom's Taxonomy (e.g., knowledge, analysis, evaluation) and Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels to assess varying levels of student comprehension and critical thinking. Monsha ensures a balanced mix of question types for comprehensive and effective assessments.

Can students cheat when quizzes are made with AI-generated questions?

Yes, students can still cheat on quizzes generated by AI, especially if they have access to the internet during the test, as they can use other AI tools to search for answers to the questions, effectively "asking the AI to answer the AI-generated questions" for them; however, careful design of the questions and monitoring during the test can help mitigate this risk.

Is it safe and secure to use AI tools for creating passage questions?

Using AI tools for creating reading comprehension questions is generally safe, provided you choose platforms that prioritize data privacy and security. Monsha follows strict security standards to protect your information. It’s important to review the platform’s terms of service and privacy policies to understand how data is collected, used, and stored. While AI streamlines question creation, teachers should review the final content to ensure it meets classroom needs.

Will AI replace teachers in the process of creating quizzes and assessments?

AI tools are designed to assist and enhance the process of creating quizzes and assessments, not to replace teachers. They can handle repetitive tasks, generate new ideas, and streamline quiz creation, giving teachers more time to focus on teaching and student engagement. However, the creativity, expertise, and personal connection that teachers bring to their classrooms remain irreplaceable. AI tools like Monsha are built to empower educators, serving as supportive resources rather than substitutes.

What teachers say about Monsha

We proudly stay close to our teachers, listen well and often—and we’re grateful that they notice.

I've shared this tool to my colleagues here in Nigeria and they are already falling in love with it.

I have utilized your tool to successfully set my exam questions from Grade 7 to Grade 9. My colleagues are amazed at the convenience, accuracy and brevity of my questions. I actually do use Monsha for everything. From baseline assessment to lesson planning to formative evaluations and of course to summative assessment. The Best thing about your work is that we have another freedom to just feed this tool with the right information and Boom! Your questions of whatever kind are generated!

This tool is fantastic! It is very intuitive as far as the prompt is concerned.

I like the options to add links, content, previous resources, and especially the YouTube feature.
I asked you to add a feature to generate slides for a presentation or an outline and notes for adding to a slide deck, which you did! This really makes it more of an all-in-one-stop shop for me now. I do a lot of presentations and professional development and always have a short slide deck.

I was fortunate to chat directly with you guys (creators). Every suggestion I shared was received with enthusiasm, you worked on it and got back sincerely.

I feel like contributing to the development of the tool haha. This is 10 times better tool now than when I first used it. But please add options for an annual plan, a didactic sequence, or a school project to give teachers more comprehensive planning tools. I have been impressed with how you improve it based on the actual needs of educators. And kept it clean and simple.
